Hiya
I am wondering if anyone has got married in Orlando and could give me an approx idea of cost? I know bec has but unsure anyone else.
I would probably look at somewhere like the Grand Floridian but may just use somewhere else.
Currently I am pricing up wedding in UK but it is very expensive, I am trying to persuade my fiancée that it is a lot cheaper to get married in Orlando and we would get better weather and a honeymoon at the same time.
At the moment the costs are up to over £15,000 and we havent even got to the ring, dress, cars, flowers, tux, bridesmaids dresses, honeymoon etc so I can see it going well over £20,000.
We have been engaged for 8 years and have been arguing about it for years as I cannot see the benefit of spending all that money, especially now we have a baby to spend money on, Id rather spend the saved money on the baby or house! :D

We got married at the Wedding Pavilion with reception and pre-reception at the Grand Floridian. Can't remember the total, think I've blanked it out  but at the time it was roughly what you'd pay for the average UK wedding.
Cost can vary greatly depending on how many people you have, what food you serve, what transport you use, kind of reception you have, etc. We had the coach, pre-reception, Epcot dessert party, open bar, fancy food items (chocolate slipper, ice slipper), confetti canon, characters, which all bumped the cost up.

Did you pay for any guests to travel?
My brother got married in Antigua 5 years ago, they paid £1500 per person for the two week holiday and £150 for the marriage license so it was quite cheap but I would prefer Orlando because I like it there more :)

Oh no! We had around 50 people there, no way we could have paid for anyone else to travel. Cost enough to have them at the wedding as it was!
If you've only got a few people going you can opt for the Escape (intimate) weddings which are much cheaper than custom

Well Nicola wants around 200 people to the actual wedding itself and around 400 people to the night time. So its going to cost a fortune if all those people come. Most of them are aunties and uncles and some are close friends and the rest for the evening are friends and work friends, partners etc.
If it was me, we would have got married 8 years ago when we got engaged, just the two of us and 10 people or something, I dont want a fuss!

I had an intimate wedding at the Pavilion with the small reception at the Grand Floridian terrace afterwards. There was the two of us and four others, i think the total was around £2,500 to £3,000. That was nearly four years ago so I expect its gone up slightly. It was cheaper to get married at a different venue with Disney but we fell in love with the Pavilion.

We have stayed at the GF a few times and would prefer there, but havent ruled any other venue out. The main thing is persuading the other half that we would be a lot better off money wise getting married abroad.

Get wed over there, but with just a few people so you can have an Escape wedding. Ceremony at the Pavilion, cake reception on Commanders Terrace at GF. Then have a home evening reception like we did, where she can invite the 400 people

 How many?? That will cost you a fortune.
I agree with Jo, have a nice intimate wedding in Disney and then a big party when you get back, you can invite as many people as the venue will hold in the UK. You can even have a photographer to take some family shots and candids. We did this and it worked out well, plus I got to wear my dress again which was a bonus :D

I know it will, this is why we have been engaged for 8 years!
Her side of the family is really big, her dad was one of 9 and her mum was one of 5. They then had sons / daughters and then so on. So lots of aunties, uncles and cousins. There are even people like neighbours that she has known all her life, and their family. It never stops. Im trying to whittle down the list and we keep arguing about it, rather annoying. A lot of them ive not even met either!!
Want me to give her number out and you can all text her and say how nice a disney wedding is? :D
We have found one venue which is around £29 per head for the daytime and £18 per head for the evening. So that is around £13,000 just for the guests!! We can still have a nice wedding without lots of them, id just have close family if it was me and the rest to the nighttime..

Do what we did - Gretna Green, no guests, no cost, and we got the witnesses five minutes before!

I done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! :):):):):):):):):):)
Sorry!
Finally she has seen sense, probably because of how much it will cost to just feed people for the reception and evening in the uk. Excluding everything else too!
Planning shall now begin! Any tips?! :):):):):)

Pay for both parents to go with you to Disney, and have a big bash when you get home.
Any arguements about money can be resolved with "we can't afford to pay for everyone" our parents are all that matter. If anyone else wants to go, they pay their own way (stay in a villa or onsite). Have a website done to show all your friends instead of trying to get photos to everyone, uptheaisle.net is a good start (my friend has his done with them) The website company will even carry the site on to make into a family album sort of thing, adding the kids as they come along etc.
I suppose the bottom line is does she want to get married at Disney?
If her heart is set on that, then you realistically can't pay for everyone

We decided to get married abroad. But not decided in Orlando or the Caribbean. Our plan is to pay for ourselves and the people who really want to come, will come.
It saves us paying for people that we never see for the wedding at £50+ per head in England! Her family is huge with her mum part of 9 and her dad part of 9 too.
Only drawback is that my mum cannot fly more than 4-5 hours. I will suggest that she flies to Halifax or somewhere in Canada and then fly down from there...
My brother got married in Antigua in 2003 and my mum and dad didnt go to that either because it was too far, but they didnt look into it really. As far as they are concerned - Lanzarote or the Algarve are the best places in the world!!
My grandparents and her nan wouldnt be able to make it due to health issues though.
So our thinking is to just have a massive do when we get home, and even broadcast the wedding via a webcam or video it and put it on facebook or something..
I think the main issue is cost. As soon as UK companies hear the word "wedding" the price goes up a lot!!
If it was me, we would have just gone away on our own years ago because I dont care when, where we get married - it is the person Im getting married to and that is all that matters. I dont care about all the other stuff that goes with it, after all it is one day, the rest of our lives is more important!!

My one big regret is having the wedding everyone else wanted us to have and not what we wanted. Don't get me wrong, we had a lovely day, but if we did it again, we would do what WE wanted. Do it your way and have no regrets!

We are having an intimate wedding in feb....we have both sets of parents his best friend and partner my best friend and partner his sister and her husband plus their two children, our two children and a mutual friend form ohio 18 including us :)
We are having a big party at old trafford when we get home. Although my budget has spun out of control (we have got to the pint where we have said well we are paying this much whats and extra £200 lol) but even with all the extras to get the same package in the uk would have cost us double the price!!!
I love the idea of orlando over the caribbean because it is an amazing back drop for the photos not just a beach (although there is always the one at GF if you want that)

Yea but the Caribbean beaches arent like any regular beach but I know what you mean.
Having a bit of an issue with this now because two of my sister in laws are school teachers and they want us to go in School holiday time when its peak Hurricane Season and prices are going to be at least £500 per person more, they have said for the last 3 years they will come with us and been let down each time with them saying they cant afford it, for 2009 I even offered to pay £1500 towards my brothers holiday if he came with us but he still said no! So my worry is that we pay all the extra money to go in School hols when we dont need to and they dont even come!!!

oh my goodness this sounds exacly like us!!!!!!!
My MILTB and SILTB both work in scools and needed school hols.
We ended up comprimising on feb because they have 1 week off during school hols and 1 week off from term time. Plus not too expensive.
But ever since we booked all I have heard is how it is too expensive, I have worked and worked and worked spent hours on this laptop finding ways to save them money and they still dont appreciate it.
