What are your experiences of Alamo?

We usually use Dollar through US rent a car, but the prices have gone up quite a lot. So we are looking at different options.

Do Alamo have a program like Dollar express too?

Alamo and National are basically the same company. I'm not familiar with Dollar's express program but National has an Emerald Program in which you place your details. When you reserve a car you automatically qualify for the next level up and you get to bypass the rental counter. You just walk out to the Emerald Aisle and pick the car you want in your class. I'm relatively certain that Alamo does basically the same thing.

Have you tried Thrifty? They often have deals on and they are the same as (or use) Dollar. Go via the thrifty.co.uk website and select overseas hire.

Again the dollar exchange rate has affected prices.

I've used Alamo from Sanford and they were fine.

I find Budget is one of the better ones that I reserve for the majority of my clients. If you join the Emerald Club it is $50 a year to be a member unless you have a company that has a contract with them. If you want really inexpensive rentals there is a site called carrentals.com which actually start with prices at $8.00 a day from name companies.

Although I am a Dollar Express member - I can usually better their offers through a reseller and still get a Dollar car - we have prefered Alamo thoiugh as the rates are basically the same but you get to walk to a line of cars at your chosen level and pick any - the final paperwork is done by the guard as you drive out - often there will be 3 brands to pick from and many colours, you can also look for a clean one - wouldn't be the first time we have been back at Dollars counter to change from the ugly brown car with soiled seats to the silver newer one beside it that we spotted.

We use Alamo all the time and never had a problem. The check-in is easy. Check online to find discounts and/or codes; you can get some much off and add an additional driver at no charge.

We used Alamo back in Oct, when we visited Disneyland and got a great deal.

Have a fun and safe trip.

The advantage with Alamo i guess is that you get to pick which car you want from the lot (in your class obviously), although we've never been given a car we didnt like from other rental companies. We've used Avis, Doallar & Alamo all with no problems. :)
