Holiday Autos have pinged me an email announcing a sale. The Florida prices will be reduced for one day only on Monday 12th January. They claim to be reducing all prices by up to 50% for pickups before end of October.

I've just got a quote from 29/09/09 - 19/10/09 with Holiday Autos and their quote came back at £411 for the basic 2dr economy (approx £80 more expensive than budget). Did they give you a voucher code to use or could that be the discounted rate??
Many thanks

Does payment have to be upfront or just a deposit?

I don't know to be honest. I've always gone direct to the car hire companies before. Just putting this as a heads up. I'll compare their prices with their car hire suppliers to see if its a good deal on the day.

Anyone used Holiday autos? Which car company do they use?

It appears to be Dollar. Just a guess though. Its definately one of the companies who use GMC vehicles.

We've used them a few times before. Can't remember if it was Dollar or Alamo  Think maybe Alamo.

OK thanks Jo. Is it the same system as us rentacar? Book with them, get a voucher and then go to the relevant desk?

Yes, I think it was a printable e-ticket type of thing

Great. I'll take a look at this. Car hire seems more expensive this year so it may be worth taking a look.

It seems that you would have to pay for your car hire at the time. They may change the payment option becuase it is so far in advance but, who knows!! I will certainly take a look on the 12th.

Down to exchange rate and insurance companies being more risk averse.

Unless its currently showing the before rates just now floridacarhire.net just beat them by £200 for a 4x4 for 2 weeks in June - would need to be half price to win my business - although I note the sale is UP TO half price.........

Am I doing something wrong? I just put in our dates and its more than any other company to hire a car even in todays sale - should I be putting in a code?

Nope its only 12 pounds cheaper across the board for our dates than direct from Alamo. Will wait I think.

They are still more expensive than our quote from USrentacar. We'll stick with them.

Yep, USRentacar definately a lot cheaper. You can take their Platinum and still beat Holiday Autos basic prices. Be wary of the offsite hires though...

Bec, try getting a quote for your car from the VA site too, they were cheapest for our Vegas trip. :)

I've just tried our companies rate for Hertz Hire (which is guaranteed 15% off) and its the same price as Holiday Autos... (Now I know Hertz is expensive, which says a lot for Holiday Autos sale).

Once, they had a really long queue and only a couple of staff on when we arrived. It looked OK when we arrived at Xmas though but we booked Alamo to choose the car from the garage.
We had issues with Alamo this trip though - they ran out of cars on Boxing Day and we had to wait an hour for a 4x4 to be brought fom the storage pound. It was a new 'blazer when it arrived with only 5 miles on it but it took a lot of hassle to get it. They were palmiong people people of with all sorts of rubbish to to get them out of there. :nono:
