Okay - lets see if I can make any sense here.
When we went to Orlando in Nov we hired a car seat with Dollar. It cost $89 for a week and wasnt the best of quality tbh. But we hadnt done it before - so you live and learn:shrug:
So this time we want to take a seat from home - so I know the quality is good and tbh it costs a fortune to rent one - more than buying one here.
How do I manage to bring it home with me if I use DTD check in? Has anyone managed it?

Check it in at check in if there is no line when you arrive at MCO to save hauling it through security or check it with the buggies at the gate Bec. You just show your boarding card to check in any extra pieces at MCO and you recieve an extra baggage receipt

I don't know about the airlines over there but the ones over here do not charge an extra baggage fee if you check it.

Are you allowed to check it in at the gate Al? That'd be great if we could.

I have seen people check car seats at the gate and then they are waiting for them when they deplane.

Wonderful. Thanks Al and John. I thought it was only buggies at the gate.
We intend on buying a moderately priced car seat to take with us. Not taking his usual one.
Even if we had to leave it there - we wouldnt be any worse off money wise than if we'd hired and Logan would have a better quality seat.

I have booked their seats to go onboard with us, they can sit in them on the flight
Abi's is quite open and would be fine to sit in it when she is not going form one person to the next (12 of us flying) and Gabriella's is a normal one so will have somewhere to rest her head when she wants to have a sleep

other option is buying one there online with amazon and getting it delivered to your hotel and get your car dropped off there too (that was our other option)

get a 2nd hand booster seat and pop it in your spare suitcase on the way out
(hahah, you KNOW the suitcase that brings back all the souvenir mugs nd stuff you dont relly need but cant part with)
then just bin it on the way back, or if you have a villa leave it there for anither guest. thats my plan anyway lol

Thanks Tish and Ruby.
Ruby - I actually need a seat not a booster - my son will only be 9 1/2 months. :)
Tish - its awkward to buy one there as we have to get from the airport.
Thanks anyway.
I think we are going to buy another one and take it. We'll try to check it in at the gate and if we cant we'll leave it.

This might help. Its a post I did on another forum ion car sears
As for DTD I woudl keep hold of the car seat if its not one with a back on it.
Hi Claire
It makes perfect sense and you are right to make sure this is sorted. There are few things I will suggest.
We have now a 7 and 4 year old but they have been coming to Florida with us since they were both newborns.
Where have you hired you car from and what sory have you gone for? If for example you have a mini van then if a Dodge caravan or grand caravan they actually have two built in car seats in the second row. You pull on a small handle, tape thing under the headrest in the second row of seats and you pull them down and there you go, two five point harness belts.
If you have not got a mini van or van does not have these belts then you can hire them for one day and return them to a local pick up and drop off centre. If you have your car from dollar or alamo or really any of the main car hire companies you can go to ANy of their outlets (and you can see a list of them on their web sites www.dollar.com (http://www.dollar.com/), www.alamo.com (http://www.alamo.com/) etc and take the seats back.
Make sure when you hire them for the day you tell them you want them for a day and you will take them back to XYZ tomorrow.
When you return them you may well be asked to prove you have car seats for the kids. So you need to buy some. the best place is walmart. for the older child a boaster will be fine adn they are about 15 dollars. For the two year old it will depend on their wight as you well know so you may need something like below.
You could also if you wanted take some from home. They do not count towards you bag allowance
So what do you do with them when finished?
Well you could sell them. That seems daft but I have known people go to the arrival baggage claim at Orlando and sell their car seats to people arriving. Or you can sell them to a villa owner and maybe if you are in a villa many of the owners provide them for their guests.
Here are some seats
For kids weight 30 to 50 pounds http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5030625 (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5030625) which is under 20 bucks
Anf for the boaster http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5716971 (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5716971) which is 18 bucks
Hope this helps

Bec, remember that the laws state here that a child under a year AND 20 lbs must be rear facing
