Im looking for a reasonably priced hotel outside of LGW - we are willing to drive about 30 mins to the terminal on the morning of departure.

Any suggestions?

For a golf trip to Portugal a couple of years back a friend booked us into a place called Gatwick Worth via FHR.
It was cheap and cheerful, but not somewhere I would stay unless I was on a really tight budget.
My favourite is the Hilton at the South terminal, but you are probably looking at an extra £100 compared to Gatwick Worth.

Redhill Premier Inn, has a Beefeater next door (breakfast is good too). Or (slightly further out), Guildford Travel Lodge has a Frankie and Bennies under it.

Bec if you go to the Premier Inn website they do let you see their properties on a map and also suggest nearer alternatives (so you can move closer to the airport or further from the noise). They also give an approx time/distance to tha airport.

Don't stay in Croydon!

Gatwick Hilton has reasonable packages - we've got a family room (for five 2 adults, 3 kids) DB&B for£209 in Dec. Advance rate is £189 but we went for higher rate as this allows changes incl any reductions being honoured

we stayed at the Holiday Inn at Gatwick, they did a good rate to include parking and a shuttle bus to and from airport (5 mins away) - it all worked really well and not much more than standard airport parking

we stayed at a travelodge near the airport. i think we paid a silly price like £13 per room!!! sowe didnt get a breakfast but itwas comfy and close by and because it was so cheap, we had a really tasty breakfast at the airport.

We also stayed at the travelodge, paid £29 per room (which was brilliant for my sister as there were 5 of them!). It was pretty basic, but it had all that you would need for the night. Breakfast isnt included in that price, there is an all you can eat buffet there though which is an additional cost.

It's worth shopping around at the moment as many of the hotels close to LGW have spare capacity and have deals on offer. If you don't want to stay in Gatwick or Crawley (and Crwaley is horrible) then avoid staying on the A23/M23 as the traffic will be heavy in the morning. If you look to stay somewhere to the West of Gatwick (Horsham) then it is a fairly easy drive in and you can avoid the motorway completely by using the local roads into the airport.

There is a Premier Inn by Horsham station that is okay. If you want something more upmarket you could look at Russ Hill which is in the country to the West of LGW but very nice.
