Am I right in thinking that all parts of disney are not connected by this?
how do i get to parts such as animal kingdom, downtown disney...etc then? is there a bus?

ill be staying on Idrive and be getting a hotel bus to the parks so not really sure how to do this?

You are correct. The monorail system only connects MK and Epcot, and the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and the Polynesian.

Buses get you to and from parks to the Disney resorts. There is also bus service to DTD.

A couple of the resorts offer boat launch service to a few of the parks.

I wish the monorail was connected to more; but you can get to most anywhere in the "World" from TTS, and from resort hotels you can get a bus to any of the parks and Downtown Disney

That actually should have read TTC, which is the Ticket and Transportation Center located near the Magic Kingdom.

I'm sure that most I Drive Hotel buses drop people off at the Ticket and Transportation Centre (TTC)

From here you can either catch a Boat or Monorail to the Magic Kingdom; and also a Monorail to Epcot. These are different monorails, so just follow the signs.

You can also catch a bus from here to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, DTD, and the water parks.

You can even get a public bus from here back to I Drive.

Or, you have the option of catching the resort monorail (again just follow signs or ask someone) to the next stop, which is the Polynesian Resort, and get a bus from there to whichever park you want to go.

However for some puzzling reason, I found the bus service at the Deluxe resorts (of which the Polynesian is one) very hit and miss. You may be better off at the TTC, but know this is an option.
