hiya
when we go next year my husband and i want to use DME.
my mum and dad are planning on hiring a car and just taking that straight from the airport and I think they will be staying atthe poly for the first 2 nights of the holiday then transferring to their timeshare
anyway - i was just wanting to know what everyone's experiences are of using DME?
how long does it take to get to the hotel?
I assume it will make a few stops on way stopping at each disney resort??
and how long after you arrive do you get your luggage? I know I read it will be in your room up to 4 hours after or something similar.
last time we went our flight got in at 4 pm and we didn't leave the airport until after 6pm cause my dad kept wanting to upgrade the car then we weren't happy with it etc etc
then they got lost (suprises me everytime as they have been like 20 times) and we didn't get to our hotel at downtown disney til 9.30pm. The kids were so hungry and we could only get them a quick mcdonalds then they went straight to bed.
it was a nightmare lol - is DME a lot simpler?
thanking you for any replies

The luggage can take up to 4 hours to get to your room when using DME but only if DME is picking up the luggage for you. I am not 100% sure but when coming in on an international flight you will have to get your bags yourself and go through customs. I would just take the bags to DME directly and bring them on the bus with you. Also DME stopped sending out the yellow tags to international addresses so you wouldn't have the tags any longer to put on the bags.
The bus for DME has a maximum of 4 stops. You can be the first or you can be the last. The stops are grouped together by location. Example if staying at the Grand Floridian the bus will go to the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge. Not necessarily in this order.
I would say it will take about one hour to get to the hotel from the time you check in at the DME desk.

Mandy-
There are two things you can do. if you parents rent a car big enough have them take you to your resort or ask them to take your luggage and when you arrive let them know where your room is and they can bring your luggage. I don't think that would be a problem do you?

thanks for that
and marie - that was our other option, but my mum and dad are already fussing cause they dont want a car too big. They had better watch cause I might end up not booking their flights if they keep hassling me lol
my hubby and I would love to try the DME and travel to our first disney resort in style - very disneyish - i am so excited just thinking about it lol

I've seen this as well although it appears to mean that you still have to go through the double luggage drop (unless you are travelling very light).
We are thinking of using DME on arrival to save the hassle of queueing for a hire car and, as we don't really use it on the first night/morning we will save a few quid and pick one up either the next day or maybe even wait a day or two more depending on our plans.

When we went to WDW about 3,5 years ago, the film they showed in the DME bus was really fun. And perfectly timed. When the film was over, we arrived at the gates of WDW.

That always amazes me - the same happens with the DCL bus going to the ship

:hello: We used the DME on our last trip, flew in on Virgin and collected our bags of the belt. Then a short walk to the mono rail which took us to the main building, once of we headed to the lifts then off to the DME desk where they greeted us checked our paperwork and boarded us onto the bus. It took us about 45mins to reach our resort POFQ, we were 2nd or 3rd drop. On the way our driver was fantastic, welcoming us all and telling us a few facts (old and new) about Disney. We also had a short film on the TV's and the bus was fully air conditioned. There was 4 in our party 2 adults 2 children 11 and 9 and we pulled our bags threw the airport, we found it no problem at all. When we arrived at our hotel the driver un-loaded our bags and we were on our way. The night before departure our return journey time was attatched to our room door, telling us what time the DME would be taking us to the airport.
We found the DME very enjoyable and we have booked it again for our next trip.
