We decided against checking in at Downtown Disney so to spend more time in the World on our last day.
Take my advice, never do this.
Checking in at MCO was a nightmare, you had to take your cases to the counter where they were weighed you then had to take the cases to another place where they were then taken from you, we has 5 checkin in items a child in a pram and my 6 year old son, this was not easy and had I known I would have paid the $40 dollars to check in at Downtown Disney.

Is the desk (at MCO) easy to find? We usually check in at DTD, but we can't this time as we're staying offsite (BOO!)
Sorry to hear you had a struggle - I'm not looking forward to it!

I have stayed off-site before and checked in at DTD - is this no longer possible?

It's still possible but I think Hayley is struggling for transport to DTD.

Yep, Alec is right - we have a towncar booked MCO - I Drive - MCO at the moment, and although we could take a trip to DTD to drop off our luggage, it's a lot of hassle and will create unneeded expense! So MCO Check-In it is! Hopefully we'll be able to check in online the night before, and just bag drop and get our boarding passes the next day.

Aww that's a shame - best of luck. Hope you enjoy your wedding site visit

You can check in online in Orlando which can make life easier. Many offsite hotels now have internet access that you can pay for including printing of your boarding passes.
Hayley - if you are near the top end of I-Drive, the hotel we stayed at last year (Doubletree Universal) has a walk in centre that you load up a payment card to use and to check in online and print your boarding passes would cost less than $5. I doubt if anyone would notice if you strolled in there to use the facilities.

There isn't a seperate bag drop like there is at Manchester, you still have to queue up with everyone who has not checked in.

Boo! Thanks Vikki :)
Yep, we are at the top of I Drive, although we always take our laptop when we go away. We usually check in online anyway, and just claim our boarding passes at DTD :) We'll probably do the same this time and just get our boarding passes at MCO!

We just got back from orlando and we found the virgin desks very busy but very easy to find.
We were at check on 3 hrs B4 flight and it took about 30 mins to que as 3 flights were being checked at the same time.
We had loads of bags (6) well underweight and 5 hand luggage, 2 adults 3 kids (aged 6,4and 2) and 1 pushchair and it was hard work as we should have paid for a luggage cart rather than moved it all ourselves one bag at a time thru the winding que.
Fortunatly the xray machine to drop bags after the bag tag was a very short almost next check in desk. In 2007 we had quite a long walk to bag xray almost 5 mins.

We usually check in at MCO. The desks are easy to find but always busy. It was chaos last time as some of the LGW flights had over 24 hr delays so there were some angry people in the queues.
As DS is special needs we check in at PE counter but the queues for this were also big. We were behind a man complaining about his UCS seat allocation

We're doing DME on our return to the airport, so are going to be there early anyway. We can't decide if we should go and queue at DTD or at MCO, I guess it won't make that much difference, apart from MCO is air conditioned

All the above just convinces me even more to go with the charters again. Our check in last year at Sanford was a breeze - we were through in about twenty minutes so if MCO is chaotic in summer and Christmas then it's back to Sanford for us.

Can anyone advise how long before a Virgin flight passengers should check in at MCO? Never used VA ourselves, but our "extra" daughter is this trip & her flight is a couple of days before ours.

I think for international flights, its 3 hours before take-off

The check-in at DTD is fantastic, IMHO. We always use it. We always go fairly early, so there is rarely a queue. You can pull up quite close to unload, so there is no dragging bags from car drop to check-in counter, which is a blessing with two small children in tow, and then you can enjoy a worry-free last day.
