Gatwick Hotels

has anyone stayed at either the hilton, crown plaza , or sofitel .
flying with virgin next year , but not sure which hotel is the better one .
I know that the crown plaza is a a few miles fron gatwick ,but it has more facilites than either of the other to.

never stayed at those but we stayed at the travelodge. i mean, its not as if we would be getting a lot of sleep!!

I stayed at the hilton the night before we flew out with virgin. Loved the fact it had a walkway that connected the hotel to the airport ( handy for twilight check in ) breakfast was good to. Also stayed at the copthorn another nice one but expensive preferred the hilton.

we are travelling to gatwick by train and also have twilight check in thats why we thought of the hilton and the walkway etc so easy.
I know this a stupid question to ask , but did the hilton have a full shower the pictures only show a hand shower .
prices show the sofitel a cheaper hotel which is linked with mono rail , so we are still undecided thanks

any othe replies will be appreciated

Stayed at the Hilton in 07 and will be there again in Dec before we go. I agree also the walk way through to the airport is ideal, there's no need to be rushing in the morning especially if you do the twilight check in the night before. Rooms are nice and the restaurant was also very good, we checked in and went to our room then took our bags through to the twilight check in and got the seats we wanted and our bags took away, not a very long wait at all there was only about five people in front of us. Then it was back to the hotel for dinner which was a very nice buffet, then an early night to get up with no rushing about and no heavy suitcases to pull through a busy airport. A nice breakfast then straight through to departure.

gald you said that about the shower thanks so much for the info .
As we are fying with virgin and the train station is at gatwick , 2007 when we went , we got off the train and checked our bags in , we had already had our seat numbers 11 months before as we asked for the seats at the back of the plane where there are 2 seats only. This time we have a free v room so that will be our breakfast sorted out .

you said you had a buffet dinner , that sounds good bet you cant wait til dec .
we wendt at christmas in 2000 not as warm as I thought but the best christmas wed had new year at MK fantasic if you like the atmosphere and fireworks. thats where we will be 4th july next year.

Hilton every time - its so easy. Drive up, go straight to twilight checkin to get rid of bags then wander back over bridge to hotel. Then in the morning can have a good long sleep and just wander back across the bridge again without having to worry about shuttle buses etc

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works here, but as lovely as the hilton is i couldnt justify that amount of money for just one night. Its a lovely hotel and yes the location is wonderful being right next to the airport and all, but, the majority of the hotels near gatwick offer transfers anyway.
When we went to Florida last year (like you, with Virgin), there was a group of us and we got to the airport by minibus the night before so that we could do twilight check-in. We checked in, went to have something to eat at the airport then got the transfer from the airport to the travelodge - no problem whatsoever, and it only cost £29 for a room that was absolutely perfect for one night!

As lovely and convenient that the hilton is, i'd rather save my money to spend somewhere else! :D

Just a thought, but when we stayed in 07 at the Hilton we used our Tesco's voucher's. At the time they had them at 4 x the value of your voucher's(Tesco Deals that is) so i;m not sure if they are still doing that or not. That way it wouldn't cost so much, if i can remember it cost us £60 in vouchers which got us the room with dinner and breakfast.

You can still use tesco vouchers and they are still worth 4x the face value

We dont shop at tesco , if we did we would do that with the vouchers priced hilton and had quote from the £87 a night . We will be travelling from cardiff arriving gatwick about 2.30pm still not sure but we have plenty of time to sort things out . thanks

I had a look at the tesco website earlier on, you have to book a minimum of 2 nights now to use your vouchers to stay at the hilton, which is a shame

We dont shop at tesco , if we did we would do that with the vouchers priced hilton and had quote from the £87 a night . We will be travelling from cardiff arriving gatwick about 2.30pm still not sure but we have plenty of time to sort things out . thanks

£87 for the Hilton sounds good as even the travelodge is probably around £50 a night (those £25 offers are hard to get at LGW)

I'm happy with using the Hilton at Gatwick. I've always toyed with idea of driving up overnight, but, then think about a long check in line + 6 hour car drive + lack of sleep = grumpy old moo, so I'm happy to pay for the Hilton. I used APH parking last february and although they were a 20 minute bus trip from Gatwick, the drivers helped me with my bags both to and from the airport which never happened with the Summer special car park bus. I did get B & B at the Hilton last time for £65 at Lastminute.com, but, that was booking really close to flying out and I am tempted to do it again, although the breakfast side isn't important as I'm planning to go to the V Room again.
