I guess I will never get to see what this ride is like. I was wondering if someone could describe it for me. It was one of those rides I was really looking forward to on my trip this year. It is closing just 2 weeks before I arrive. I guess I still have Spiderman and Men In Black to look forward to.
Any chance someone could take me on some type of written virtual tour so I could know just what I missed?
I've read it had a smell. What was that about?
What was the line/queue area like?
Was it a long ride?
Did Kong walk from out of nowhere?
Did he pick up the car you were in?
I'm absolutely lost on what to make of this ride.

OK it's a few years since I rode this but this is what I remember.
You entered into a loading area made to look like a NY subway station. Definitely a musty smell and loads of graffiti all over the place. You were then loaded onto kind of cable car type thingys to escape from Kong who was loose in the city. Each car had a crew member who did the "remain seated, don't panic" spiel. I guess it was about a 5 minute ride once you left the loading station. Kong didn't walk from nowhere - he was huge. Your cable car went round a corner and he was standing there towering over you. Then he picks up your car, shakes you around a bit, then drops you. The drop is only a few feet but fairly intense when it's a giant monkey doing the dropping. Then you make an escape back to the loading station and as you come in your crew member switches on the monitor up front and shows you the video of your reactions as you've been secretly filmed throughout the ride.
Then you exited through a gift shop where you could get your photo taken standing in Kong's hand in front of a giant Kong head. I still have one of those pictures somewhere.:)

Exactly right! I will just add a bit to this. Also, when your going around all of the corners and you see Kong, when you go past him fire blows up in your face and stuff. Then you go around another corner and theres a helicopter flying and shooting at Kong, but the helicopter crashes. Thats it I think :)

Sounds like fun. I don't think I've heard of anything like it at another theme park.
I'm sure they'll put something really great and new in its place but I am still bummed I missed out of the chance to ride it.
I'm glad to hear, according to some article in the Orlando Sentinel, that they are keeping most of the parts of the ride. Maybe someday they'll bring it back?

Yeah I think they are keeping all of the parts/sets. I was thinking they might just put the Kong you can take your picture with somewhere else in the park so you can still get your picture.
They are putting a Mummy/ Scorpion King ride in its place. Its going to be a roller coaster. :D

It was a great ride, but it broke down more than it was open!!!

Universal is having a special "Goodbye Party" for this attraction this weekend. There is a special timeframe for AP holders.
I've never been on this attraction either! And given Dawn's description, I'm pretty sure I'm glad I missed it. :(
I never did like the whole King Kong idea anyway. (The movie, I mean). One of those radical, left wing, bleeding hearts that hated the whole concept!  ;) ;)

Its one of those rides that you enjoy the first time you do it, but never has the same charm and thrill of surprise when you go back. Mind you it was very innovative and popular when it first appeared. Peoples expectation levels though have risen with the advances in technology so a 'Tame' attraction like Kong has seen its popularity wane which is a shame but Universal have to do whats best for the punters. I do look forward to see what they come up with the planned Mummy/Scorpion King Coaster!:)

OOH, OOH,
Does this mean if I'm brave enough, I could drool over 'The Rock' for the whole duration of this ride!! I CAN do that!!!:D
OK, I'm really going now. See you later!!

I rode it on the last day. Nearly didnt as they had problems with it and it didnt open till nearly 1 pm.
there were alot of annual pass holders at the park as they were getting something special and they were all queing up to get their last rides at a special presentation that evening.
i must have just timed it at opening because when I came out the queues were huge and they were only issuing the express to the passholders for later in the day.
several bosses were seen hovering around and you could see that they were not happy.

It definately had a problem with breaking down. When i went there years ago the ride broke down right under king kongs head when he was looking in, for about 10 minutes i think. I was still disappointed to hear it was closing though, as i wanted to go back in the next year or two and ride it again with the kids.

Hi!
Kong was great, went there in March and loved it - been each time we stayed in Orlando and so pleased we did if it's actually closing :( Still, I guess they have to move on. We videoed the ride and I am pleased I did now :) At least I have that to look back on as my memory seems to lapse these days....must be something to do with all the brain cells I use up when we go on holiday, planning itineries, organising kids, fuss, fuss, hey thought I was on holiday!!!!
I do remember King Kong's breath smelling of bananas tho' or was that my imagination??

Jewel...that's what I thought, too, but thought it was my imagination. Glad I'm not the only one. Actually, as soon as we walked into the que area I mentioned this to my husband, but I guess he did smell it...funny!

Hi Princess Tink!
LOL Thankgoodness it's not just me, I thought I had gone 'bananas' but there was definately that smell every time he roared (or whatever kong does!)
Wonder if there are any other rides that have the smells to go with them ;) or shouldn't I ask!
