Book Hire car before or when you get there

We're going for just over 3 weeks but only want a car for 4-7 days at the end of the trip.
Do you get a better price/deal
1)if you pre-book(Luxury model)
2)pay on the day and haggle with the people at the care hire desk
3)Pre-book a lower model car and Haggle an upgrade on the day

I normally have the very Basic model when i'm in spain but i thought i'll push the boat out this time.It would be picking up and dropping off at a Disney car hire site.My car of choice is the Chrysler 300c

thanks nyck

I've always found it to be better to pre book the model you want before leaving the UK. We're trying buget this time booked via USRentacar.

We got one of those from Alamo in Tampa last year as they didn't have the Charger we had ordered and I refused to take a Grand Marquis so they gave us a free upgrade. I know that you can order them from Budget at MCO but they are very expensive.

It was a great car for the cross state trip we did and very comfy. It also has the Sirrius satellite radio included which is great fun to play with. The kids enjoyed the idea of listening to the Radio 1 breakfast show in the morning as the feed is delayed to match local time.

Re: Book Hire car before or when you get there

You don't want to turn up and haggle - you WILL get fleeced - 2 trips ago a guy paying cash for a car for 4 days was paying more for the 2 door than we paid for the 14 days in an SUV.
Use usrentacar and pick up from a convienient location - they tell you who's cars you are booking and you are not stuck to airport locations.

Definately pre-book. I have had good luck with www.carrentals.com and then using the Alamo location directly located at the Dophin Hotel. Check out any and all coupons you have - they applied them for me and it was GREAT!

Good luck to you.
