Renting points?

I just read that I could rent points from a member. What do you think about this? I really need a two bedroom Villa at Boardwalk near the end of June or July. Disney doesn't have any available at a discount so I was thinking of doing this.

You can really save alot of money by renting pts vs. paying cash through DVC Member Services or CRO -- just be careful to get references before hand so that you know the member you are dealing with. So far I've heard nothing but success stories although I'm sorry to say I cannot speak from experience as I haven't needed to rent pts yet.

Best of luck and let us know how you make out if you decide to go the renting route!

Mrs.Tom-Morrow,
Hi! I think renting can work out great. I have thought about renting some additional points myself (--even though we have our own points, it seems there are never enough! ) If I were to rent from somone, I would probably rent through the Dis board. They have a forum that is devoted to renting/trading. I would pick someone who has been around for a while (probably someone who posts on the DVC forum quite a bit). Even still, there would be an element of trust involved.

The only fly in the ointment that I can see is end of June/July in DVC terms is right around the corner and there may not be availability even by renting someone's points. Usually, the terms of the rental are more stringent than if you were to go through CRO. At 30 days out, a lot of folks will not give any kind of refund. (Terms are different with each person who rents out their points, but if you have to cancel out with less than 30 days notice some may only give you an opportunity to use the points until such time as they expire. Also, different from CRO is that it isn't just the first night's rent, but it would be for the entire stay. Less than 24 hours notice of cancelation and the points are lost entirely).

I have never been the renter or the rentee, but a lot of folks seem to have had good experiences with this.
