One of the first places I would go would be to disboards.com and log on to the DVC board there. I'm a DVC member since 1999 and have never regretted one single day of it. I'm willing to say from chatting with other members that at least 95% of us are more than pleased with our decision to join DVC. It's a great investment and also saves money on vacations.

Hope that helps!

Cool dvc information

Hi psdjmem~~~
Here is the website that I go to for my vacation club. Let me tell ya, its the BEST investment I have ever made.
I bought mine sight unseen through my friend who already is amember. I have been a member for almost 4 years, and I love it! My home resort is Old Key West, but I can stay where ever I want as long as there are rooms available. There is nothing like it if you are a avid disney freak ( LOL ) and love going on a yearly vaca. Even if you dont you can save up,,,,, its great.
And the thing I loved, when I called, is NO pressure. They sent me a great video about it, and I asked all kinds of questions. When I made the decision to go for it, disney sent me all the papers through Fed ex, postage pre paid and i called via the phone and they walked me through everything. Easy as that.
And , if you go there and go on a tour ( this is from my friend) they take you on the tour, they took her and her family out to lunch and gave her kids t shirts and treated them like gold, and again NO pressure.
Check it out, in my opinion, you cant go wrong! Good luck!

psdjmem,

Another good starting point is to call up DVC (and order via the web) and order the FREE Disney Vacation Club Video.

DVC guides (or sales representatives) are very low key and are not pushy.

It is an education process as to how the points work. It is a good idea to do lots of research from many different points of view before deciding to buy. Here is another web site Timeshare User's Group (TUG) --some parts of the web site are accessed by members only (membership fee was $10.00 per year when I signed up). Link to TUG

TUG has folks from all kinds of different Timeshares with all kinds of information and advice....
TUG advice on timeshares
(Some of the prices/maint fees may be dated, so always check with Disney for the most current. )

My own perspective on DVC: We first looked at buying into DVC when they were offering OKW(I guess about 10+ years ao). At that time, we had not established a firm track record with our vacationing habits at WDW, we knew we liked staying at resorts on the monorail and we didn't need as much space as we do now.... We have made 23+ visits to WDW with no sign of slowing down--We finally bought into DVC in 2002 and we did an add on this year.

DVC is an extremely flexible program... DVC has also spoiled us--it is very difficult for the whole family to stay somewhere in just one hotel room after staying in wonderful 2BR accomodations.....

Let me add one cautionary note. As helpful as websites are, nothing is official unless it comes directly from a DVC guide. There are many, many helpful people on a number of sites, but there are also pieces of information that are not correct. Don't make your decision based on "facts" from non-official folks. We members can give you opinions and our experiences and some can even explain the rules and regulations in detail, but do not make financial decisions based on those comments!

Take care and have a wonderful time learning about DVC. Good luck to you with your decision and hopefully we will be able to wish you a "Welcome Home!" soon.

our plan is to get the free video take a look at that, get DVC members information on what they like or dislike, what resorts they stay at ect. any advice and make a list of questions and go and speak to someone while we are at WDW in october it may be something that is just right for our family!! Personally i would go to WDW every year for vacation but dh has some insane idea that maybe we might want to go somewhere else --- what is wrong with him???? RLOF

only 107 days to go!!!!!

LOL! Sounds like you have a great plan. Don't forget to remind your DH that the DVC can be used throughout the world should you ever decide to vacation elsewhere. It truly is a flexible program and does not limit itself to WDW by any means.

For my opinion on location: I'm an OKW member and strongly prefer that resort. The villas are larger, the parking directly in front of the room is a huge bonus. Lugging stuff for what seems like miles at the other DVCs is no fun.

I like the others, too all for different reasons, I just prefer OKW.

I really like Vero Beach too.

Have fun deciding. I think you will buying into the newest DVC, Saratoga Springs because the others are sold out.
