bought dvc - Disney World

:flower: DH and I bought 240 points at VB in June this year. We have a December use year.
So many points for us but we figure that everyone keeps adding on. Hopefully we will be happy for awhile. Since we had to finance ours.

Planning is so much fun...

Question for anyone who owns at VB. Is it worth the xtra maintence $. We bought site unseen. We love the ocean. So we felt we could still use at Disney, but use the 11 month window during the peak season on the ocean...

I absolutely love Disney's Vero Beach resort. The villas are lovely and the grounds are spacious. The coastline is forever long and allows for long, long walks uninterupted by commercialism.

I don't care for the onsite restaurants (for breakfast maybe, but that's about it) so I always make certain that I have a least a one bedroom. I want the full kitchen. They are the only DVC that have elevators in each building. Parking is below the buildings, with extra spaces alongside. The luggage trolleys are there for you to use on your own, which makes it very nice.

The one drawback is that you need to be down on the beach to have a view of the ocean, usually. The Grand Villas all have views, but I've yet to need a "sleeps 12" so that doesn't help me much. There are some Inn rooms with a view, but again, I like the full kitchen.

Across the road is the other half of the resort that was supposed to be used for expansion. I believe that has been rethought and will not be used to add additional villas. It is a quiet place for a walk and there are facilities there for large parties (seems to be where company picnics and the like are held). I don't wander in the brush too much in Florida, don't like the wildlife I encounter, so I don't spend too much time there!

Buying at Vero, since you love the beach, is an excellent purchase. Some folks bought at Vero with the thought that they would rarely stay there, instead staying at a WDW Vacation Club. That worked pretty well in the early years, but with the selling out of the properties, it makes it harder and harder for folks to get a booking with the seven month window. A general rule of thumb is to buy where you want to stay the most!

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Yes, Vero Beach is very much worth the investment for a seaside resort vacation. You just may want to bring your own food.

I agree with all that Tink has said.
Although our home resort is OKW, we stayed at VB last year for a few days and we really enjoyed the place, walking along the beach on a moon lit night was something special.

I'm a great cook. The type who always seems to have company for dinner when I cook. LOL
So no problem. Just some planning of meals for two. Sharing the clean up so I have time to play too.

That should be an even trade for DH. I'll even bake the cookies, and breads at home. They will travel.
Yahoo can't wait for May. Seems like such a long time.

There is a Publix quite nearby. They sell a good variety of all ready prepared foods (their roasted chicken, comes in several flavors, is quite good) that can be dressed up a bit. Saves on cooking time!

There are any number of offsite places to dine also. I've not bothered, because once on property, I generally don't like to leave.

There is a little shop (five minutes walk) right next to the resort. It has some pretty neat prepared selections too.

DH will love that.. He works for them. Has for 27 years, so when ever we are on vacation we always look for Publix. LOL
Even when we are out of state. The man will drive 60 miles to a Publix. LOL
Yeah he'll be happy.

Just be warned that the prices at the local Publix are breathtaking. I thought Goodings at WDW was bad, but this particular Publix really startled me. ($20 per pound for strip steak)! But anyway, you'll be able to purchase supplies to cook and maybe there will be a sale when you visit!

We are BCV members but used some leftover points to stay at Vero last summer. We LOVED it! We are used to Myrtle Beach in SC with all the tourist attractions & hub-bub which is normally what we like but his was such a refreshing change! Especially after days at WDW. The beach is gorgous & as you are surrounded by "neighborhoods" not other resorts the beach was not busy at all except right in front of the resort.

We loved the grill by the pool for burgers & fries. We only ate at one of the two inside dining options for a character breakfast (can't remember what it was called) but we weren't that crazy about it. We only had a studio but still had enough room for breakfast foods & sandwich making materials & then ate dinner out every night. If you drive into Vero there is a little town w/a few hotels & resorts. All very neat & tidy. Even the obviously older hotels were still very well kept & that's what shocked me. Very swanky shops around this area. But if you head out & I cannot remember the route to take you will run into strip malls here & there. We bought groceries & I don't think it was a Publix but I can't remember now. We ate 3 or 4 nights at a place called Too Jays. We loved it! It's nothing fancy at all, just good ol' American home cooking. Had excellent Key Lime Pie! I miss it now.

Overall we were thrilled at Vero & if money allowed I'd love to buy just 100 points there. We will try to stay in June again next year. Hope we are lucky to get in again!
