Thumbs up ATTN: OKW owner's & goer's too!

Just thought I'd let y'all know.......apparently the "we are getting a waterslide" at OKW rumor is no longer a rumor but indeed fact. According to many other DVC members over on the Disboards, it was announced at the annual meeting in Dec. that we will be getting a waterslide. Yesterday, someone posted that they just returned this past week and after doing quite a bit of poking around and playing private eye -- actually had gotten a look at the drawings/sketches for the plan and was told by CM's in charge that construction is set to begin somewhere around Oct./Nov. During this time because the main pool at OKW will be closed, they say they will be transporting guests by boat to SSR to be able to use their pool in the meantime. (as well as the other pools throughout OKW still being availible). No mention was made of pool-hopping ceasing as of yet, just that OKW is getting a waterslide and able to use the SSR pool in the meantime.

Personnally, I'm very excited about the slide although I know many others are on the oppossite side of the fence. Please know that I do not personnally know all of this to be absolute fact either - just thought I'd pass along what other's are now saying is no longer rumor but fact. So please don't want to hit me over the head if I'm wrong LOL

Bye for now

Ach. There goes the neighborhood. I liked the quiet pools of OKW. I'm guessing that adding the water slide will be the death knell of pool hopping. Each DVC will have a pool with some sort of added attraction and that will be the excuse.

Not that pool hopping was a big deal to me anyway, but I know many folks really liked the idea.

Anyway, thanks for the info!

Ok, I was really happy about a pool slide at OKW because to me that was the one negative thing there, the pool (though I do understand if you have no kids it's nice to have a less exciting pool). BUT, if this may cause pool hopping to cease I'm really sad. I didn't realize OKW was the reason they gave us pool hopping priveleges.

It will likely make the main pool more busy especially with families who have kids, but on the other hand the other pools will become more quiet. I like the idea of a slide for both of those reasons. I have family that sometimes likes to slide, and when we don't want hussle and bussle of people at the swimming area, we will use a different pool. This has worked out great for us at other resorts. I am kind of bummed though if the pool hopping does actually go. Oh well, such as life! If we truly want a specific pool, then we'll stay at that resort.

Thumbs up Quick update on the OKW pool slide

Just read now that construction is set to begin on the OKW pool slide in Sept. and hopefully be finished some time in Jan.05

Doing the happy dance

Anyway for those of you interested, here's some of the post I read:
_______________________________
OKW Pool slide info-- Photos to follow
We arrived at OKW last night. Staying in building 32- everything was clean and in good condition.

Today, I met with iluvdisney near the pool- they return to sunny Michigan tomorrow- and was able to see and photograph the artist renderings for the slide to be added to the OKW pool. Construction is scheduled to begin in September and hopefully be completed by January- (when the really warm weather begins ) During that time, OKW guests may use the neighborhood pools and/or the SSR pool. Boat transportation to SSR will be provided.

Unfortunately, I neglected to bring the cable needed to upload the photos of the slide to my computer- so the photos won't be posted until after we return home this weekend.

As for the opening date of SSR, the announced date is now May 17, 2004. Originally, May 1 had been suggested as the date, but that was revised to May 17 more recently.

Stay Tuned!

I should have mentioned the theme of the OKW slide in the renderings today (they are available to be seen at Hank's Rent-N-Return). The slide will be a giant sand castle and will be situated between the kiddie pool and the main pool. As already noted, I'll try to post the photos of the model and artist renderings by early next week.

Stay Tuned!

I completely understand why some people are happy and others aren't. I personally fall into the happy category. I am even more happy that they are waiting until after summer before they begin construction.

I fall under happy unless they take away my pool hopping privileges, then I will fall under sad.
