Saratoga Springs Resort (SSR) Price Increase!

I can't believe my eyes! The following was cut and pasted from the official DVC member site.

"Don't delay, act today! Add Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort to your Membership before the price increase May 9, 2004.

Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is sure to be a huge hit with Members! And because the Grand Opening in May 2004 is just around the bend, now is the time to take advantage of our special pre-opening pricing if you'd like to add to your Disney Vacation Club Membership. A price increase will take effect on April 4 for non-Members. As a benefit to Members, we're extending this special pricing for an additional month!

On May 9, 2004, the price per Vacation Point for Members will increase from $89.00 to $95.00.
And for a limited time, Members can take advantage of Magical Beginnings savings of $10 per Vacation Point when you purchase an ownership interest equal to 100 Vacation Points or more!

These Magical Beginnings savings may go away at any time-don't miss your opportunity to get the best price on purchasing an additional ownership interest. Plus, your ownership at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort will ensure that you get priority booking at our newest resort.

To learn more about this special offer, call your Guide today or call 800-633-5147."

I understand that the price increase only pertains to SSR. All the other properties will remain at $84.00 per point.
When I first bought into DVC, the price was around 70-74.00 per point. I had heard speculation that someday it would reach $100.00 and I just couldn't believe it--certainly not in the space of 2 or 3 years. Wow!

Do you think that because the membership period at SSR has been extended beyond the other DVC properties; that is how they are going to justify the large increase?

How much are the annual maintenance fees at SSR? I can only imagine that they are higher than the other properties as well.

Didn't I read somewhere that they were at one point selling SSR for $79/point?

I love DVC! With DS's annual school tuition over $2400, we cannot at this point afford to join....but I have rented points several times and don't even consider staying any other way.

I think Saratoga Springs is going to be absolutely gorgeous, and I don't think they will have any trouble selling the points even when the price does rise. Oh, how I wish it was in the cards for me to buy points now.

Any word on when the grand opening of the resort will be?

I think it is mid-May for the opening.

$95 per point is pretty steep! But I know that folks will buy in at that cost. They always do. Too bad though. Just imagine all the folks who could really enjoy a DVC membership if they could only afford it.

Thanks for the info DC!

That is what we paid last OCT. The price was $89 per point, but they had a $10.00 per point discount as an incentive to buy (and we got to keep our points and we got a Dec 2003 UY--so, we get 51 years worth of points ) It was too good of a deal to pass up .
