ATA bankruptcy

The airline that I have booked my flight with may be claiming bankruptcy today. They said on the news that they will still be flying, and still honoring tickets, but they also said that they may be discontinuing flights from the airport I'm flying out of. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? Do you think another airline at that airport will honor my tickets, or will I have to travel to another airport that ATA is flying out of? (the closest being about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from my house). I hope I haven't lost my way to Disney! Any suggestions or has anyone gone thru something similar?

Re: ATA bankruptcy

I heard this on the news too and they did make a point of saying that the airline is going to keep flying. My best advice is to call your airline or check with your travel agent to see about switching your flights. And I would not wait till the last second to do this either. Some of the other airlines may have made arrangements with ATA to pick up those ticketed passengers who's flighs have been cut back.

Re: ATA bankruptcy

This happened a few years back with my wife and niece. I dropped them off at the airport and there were a bunch of TV trucks. I left and then got home to find a message on the machine that Sun Country (who they were flying) was filing bankruptcy and were discontinuing all flights the next day. She asked them how she was supposed to get back and since we didn't buy the ticket directly from them they couldn't help her (bought ticket through TA). Luckily, since we did buy through a TA she was able to get her and my niece on another airline back home and my wife didn't have to waste any of her time on the phone.

The ironic part here is the airline she got a return flight from was ATA.

Re: ATA bankruptcy

According to my travel agent father, your good to go as long as they file chapter 11. If they file chapter 7, you have to hope that some other airline will pick up the tickets.

Re: ATA bankruptcy

2005WDWbound,
I have heard the same thing as JM--if it is chapter 11, they are filing for re-organzation under bankruptcy protection which protects them from their creditors (ie--so their creditors can't seize their assets--like their airplanes, for example) and they can keep operating.
They come up with a plan which is approved by the court and they emerge from bankruptcy--sometimes a smaller company.
Sorry to hear you have tickets booked on them. I hope it turns out to be minimal impact to you.

...moving this over to the Transport board...

Re: ATA bankruptcy

ATA did indeed file Chapter 11. That means they will keep flying for the foreseeable future.
